Kids are back in school and autumn is already approaching. Now is a great time to focus on some home maintenance projects that you get your home ready for the winter. I know, it doesn't get that cold around here but we can still do a few things to keep our homes in tip-top shape.

#1. Clean the Gutters.

#2. Check the wood trim around windows, doors, railings, and decks.

If you see any wood rot or if there are any holes, use caulking to seal them or simply replace the wood.

#3. Now is a good time to paint your house.

With the lower humidity and cooler weather, it makes for a good time to paint the exterior of your home.

#4. Seal the driveway.

Inspect the driveway for any cracks or damage. Clean out and repair this with a driveway sealer, then come with a commercial sealer. This will help extend the life of your driveway throughout the winter and beyond.

#5. Cover air-conditioners.

Vacuum out the internal parts of all air conditioning units, remove from the windows, wrap the outside box with an approved type of plastic cover. This prevents any rusting of important parts.

#6. Yard equipment.

Prepare all of your yard equipment for proper storage. Drain the fuel from gas operated equipment and organize any gear you might need over the winter.

#7. Reverse the ceiling fan.

This is an easy way to blow air downward to cool the room and because warm air rises, in the winter you want to recirculate that warmer air to the parts of the room. Keep your fans running on low-speed setting to help lift the chill from the room.
