TUESDAY TRAILS
NORTH WILSON #123
Get to know this 11.6-mile out-and-back trail near Sedona, Arizona. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 18 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are September through May. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Wilson Mountain stands tall at 7,122 feet and was named after Richard Wilson, a bear hunter who was killed by a grizzly in 1885. It is the tallest mountain in the Sedona area and offers an incredible view of Sedona and beyond, including Oak Creek and the San Francisco Peaks.
The hike up Wilson Mountain has two parts. Part 1 takes you up to the First Bench, which can be reached from Midgley Bridge (the most exposed but most scenic route) or from Encinoso Picnic Area, also known as the North Trail. Part 2 takes you from the First Bench to the Sedona Lookout. If you don't have much time or energy, reaching the First Bench is still well worth the effort. However, the Sedona Lookout is truly spectacular! From there, you can see a vertical drop of several hundred feet straight down into the famous red-rock stone sculptures of Sedona.
