The Village of Oak Creek

Oak Creek, known to locals as “The Village” is a charmingly quant community south of Sedona Arizona just 5 miles from Uptown and West Sedona. This community is mainly comprised of many subdivisions centered on its first and legendary golf course The Oak Creek Country Club. It is a great place for those who love Sedona but may want a quieter small town feel. The Village of Oak Creek

Oak Creek began as a ranching community known as Big Park and in the 1960’s developed into a planned community around Oak Creek Country Club. Since then the area has seen significant growth with the building of the Canyon Mesa and Sedona Golf Resort golf courses and a few resort hotels. These courses are of the highest quality. Oak Creek Country Club is an 18 hole championship course designed by renowned golf course designers, Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent “Bobby” Jones Jr. Sedona Golf Resort, next door to the Sedona Hilton, is an 18 hole par 71 course with a four star rating from Golf Digest. Canyon Mesa is a small 9 hole executive course with its own surrounding subdivision of smaller houses and townhomes.

Though the golfing is spectacular there are more outdoor activities for the residents to benefit from in “The Village”. This area is nestled amongst some of the most beautiful red rocks and wilderness in Arizona. The Coconino National Forest surrounds Oak Creek. A forest service center resides at Oak Creek’s south end.  To the north, is the famous Bell Rock Vista and Pathway, a nearly 4 mile well groomed trail. This is a great spot for hiking and mountain biking through the breathtaking scenery this area is so famous for.

Shopping, a theatre, and the popular Marketplace Café can be found at the Oak Creek Factory Outlet Stores. It is a small shopping center, but many great deals have been found here. The Marketplace Café is host to live music in the evenings and the Canyon Moon Theatre features many different live performances including plays and music. The Village has a locally owned and operated grocery store. More shopping and dining opportunities can also be found in the nearby city of Sedona.

Even more activities can be found with just a 48 min drive north to Flagstaff.

Schools in Oak Creek include Big Park Community School and Verde Valley School. Big Park Community School is a public K-8 school. Big Park has been identified as an “Excelling” school by the Arizona Dept. of Education. Verde Valley School is an International Baccalaureate Preparatory Boarding and Day School for grades 9-12, one of only a few of it’s kind in the U.S.  High School students wishing to attend public school attend the nearby Sedona Red Rock High.

There are many different types of homes in Oak Creek, some even rumored to be owned by celebrities who have fallen in love with it’s beauty. Home prices have a wide range to suit most budgets from 150,000 up into the millions. Homes here are generally 5 to 10% less than homes in Sedona. With all the surrounding beauty, small town community, and close by amenities Oak Creek is a great place to live for those desiring a more laid back lifestyle.
